What I don't quite understand is that when he starts the descent he has 4 tanks on his back and but in the foootage between minutes 2.30 and 3.00 he already has 2 tanks. How come? And who is with him when tghey show the disk with 315 meters sign?

His breathing is not regular, and or his regulator is damaged, he didn’t dump his weights, and buoyancy compensator was blown up/ripped leading any one looking at it with a clear cut number of steps that lead to his death. No mystery here.

My misses would love this mystery thing..but in this context it is harmful..this should be an educated lesson in dive safety..not a spiritual mystery. The footage in this documentary of yuri is a reenactment and misleading.

Apparently they they (Guinness world records) haven’t heard of Comex and the Hydra series. Comex in Hydra 8 sent divers to 1700 feet using a hydrogen helium oxygen mix. They spent 28 days total at pressure and were able to build a pipeline an experiment not a job. The problem is just like nitrogen becomes narcotic around 100 ft or so, hydrogen becomes narcotic around 1600 ft. Comex later (Hydra 10) brought divers to 2300 ft in a chamber. Not a lot of data is available on this 2300 ft Hydra 10 experiment but I’m assuming the motor skills of the divers were greatly affected. They never sent these divers down to the bottom and never continued the experiments.

The gas you breathe is halved in volume every 10 metres due to the increasing pressure of the water. Gas compresses. This means you'll use twice as much air at 10 metres than at sea level. 4x as much air at 40metres - which means that there is actually 4x the mass of gas molecules breathed in as normal and this can poison you. Too much oxygen will make you blind and more. So they have to dilute the oxygen as you go deeper in other inert gases. They can't use nitrogen because at high pressure, nitrogen makes you drunk. So they use special weak oxygen mixes of gas to breathe including helium. Blood chemistry is messed up easily and it's super hard to think properly and rationally. It's an alien environment for humans. You need much much mode gas to breath too as you use up 4x as much at 40 metres than at 0m. And this scales as you go deeper. It takes a long time to surface, because the nitrogen and other gases have dissolved in your blood and organ fluids and it needs to bubble out super slowly so your blood vessels don't become blocked by air bubbles that will kill or harm you. The timing of this "decompression" (deco) is crucial and experimental It takes ages to safely fizz the air out of your organs and blood. And the fizzing is never really good for you even when it's well controlled.
